Walking down the journey of our life, we were forced to meet and faced the society. Who would have guess a simple 'hi' or 'hello' becoming the starting point of a long and meaningful relationship? All of us has that special friend in our life.
Maybe our best friend is someone like Alanis. She is white and has black hair. She love to wear patterned clothing especially polka dots dresses. Maybe she is blonde and stylish just like Jolie down here, who loves to wear denim.
Maybe we can relate Kim with our best friend who prefer to wear graphic shirt with her favorite pair of pants.
Visually comparing all three girls, the first thing run through our mind is The first two girls are white and the last girl is black. Stop lying to yourself. You did think of what I just mentioned. How do we judge people based on their skin color? Is white means beautiful? Does black stand for ugly? Are you sure you are not racist?
Racism is not a new issue in this world. It has been going on haunting mankind for generations. Even though it is not physically seen but the society and their mentality who taught us to be racist. There are effort to change our ways of thinking especially toward the simplest and easiest medium, movie.
Director, Guy Green, portrayed this situation clearly in his movie, 'A Patch of Blue'. This movie tells the story of a white blind girl, Selina, and a black office worker, Gordon. The eventually falls in love. When her cruel mother aware of their relationship, she forbids them just because Gordon is black.
In my naive opinion the simplest way to define racist is a person who judge and differentiate a human being based on their race or in other words skin color. This happened because of some of us thinks we are better than the other. The easiest way to judge a person is though their appearances. It is true first impression is important just like the quote said, ' you never got a second chance to make a great first impression'. Today, most people tend to make their first impression based on their skin color.
In order to change the society's mentality we need to change our own. Stop judging people. As human we cannot escape from being judge-mental but the least we can do is to keep our thought to ourself. Treat other the way we want to be treated. Just because that person is darker than us does not mean he is a bad human being or maybe just because that person is Asian does not mean he has to be smart and genius. All of us are created with our own uniqueness and we are different from others. Even identical twins has their own individual personality. Everyone is different and that is what makes the world a colorful place.
